BIXBY, Okla. — A first of its kind mental health awareness walk was held in Bixby on Saturday, bringing people together to break the stigmas surrounding mental health.
Organizers said events like this are important, but even a small act of kindness can make a huge difference for someone who’s struggling.
“I hope that everyone understands that checking on someone and asking if they’re okay can make a bigger difference than we realize,” said Darcy Linam, Founder of Wellness Walk. “One kind word, one small conversation, just knowing that someone cares can make a bigger difference than we realize, and it really could be the reason someone chooses to stay.”
Organizers hope to bring the Wellness Walk back next year.
