The 95th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle brought together students, fitness enthusiasts, health advocates and nutrition and overall well-being, encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles through cycling and other fitness activities.
Organised in collaboration with the Centre for Public Health and Food Safety (CPHFS) and the Food Corporation of India (FCI), the event brought together stakeholders from the fitness, food and public health sectors to promote healthy living and responsible food choices.
World Food Day is observed annually on October 16 to commemorate the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945. This year’s global theme, “Innovate Today,” calls for innovative approaches to improving food production, distribution and consumption.
The event saw the participation of several prominent fitness advocates and personalities, including NSUT Sports Officer Dr. Praveen Saroha; Fit India Ambassador, fitness expert and TEDx speaker Manisha Singh; health influencer and strength and conditioning coach Utsav Ghosh; Fit India Ambassador and ten-time world record holder Rakesh Saini, popularly known as ‘Akki’ or the ‘Iron Teeth Man of India’; and actor-producer Rohit Choudhary, who featured in Gadar 2.
Supporting the initiative launched by the Sports Authority of India under the Fit India Movement, NSUT Vice Chancellor Prof. Anand Srivastava highlighted the university’s vehicle-free campus as an ideal environment for encouraging cycling and sustainable mobility.
“When students take up cycling, it not only helps them stay fit but can also boost their energy levels and improve their ability to focus on their studies, without affecting the environment,” Srivastava said.
Fit India Ambassadors Manisha Singh and Rakesh Saini appreciated the enthusiasm of participants who gathered early in the morning to support the fitness movement.
Emphasising the importance of community participation, Singh encouraged people to lead by example and inspire others to prioritise fitness in their daily lives.
“Set an example in your community to be fit and become the leader to inspire others in your community, in your locality,” she said.
Saini described Fit India Sundays on Cycle as an effective platform for promoting sports and fitness activities. He also urged young people to stay away from drugs and focus their energy on constructive pursuits.
“Channel your energy into your passion and dedicate yourself to it. When you focus on your talent and work hard towards your goals, you can achieve great heights and make our country proud,” he said.
As part of the programme’s focus on youth well-being and responsible lifestyle choices, Saroha led participants in taking the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge. Participants pledged to keep themselves, their families and communities away from substance abuse and contribute towards building a drug-free society.
Saroha also emphasised the role of regular physical activity in helping young people maintain healthier lifestyles and stay away from substance abuse. He commended the initiative for expanding its reach by engaging educational institutions and encouraging greater youth participation.
The event featured a five-kilometre cycling ride along a designated route, alongside activities designed to engage participants across age groups. A dedicated yoga zone, an interactive game zone and a Garba Zumba session led by fitness expert Neetu Chawla added to the day’s activities. The Fitspire Game Zone further encouraged participants to experience fitness through interactive games and community engagement.
Through Fit India Sundays on Cycle, the Fit India Movement continues to encourage citizens to incorporate cycling and other accessible forms of exercise into their routines, making fitness an enjoyable and collective community activity.
